Extinction

 

 

A love for the natural world is a gift I received at a very young age.... and so it is still. My life has been a journey to know, understand and appreciate, as individuals, the animals that share our world. The drive behind my art is not so much to paint how an animal looks, but rather to capture who they are in that fleeting moment. I paint them to know them and to explore what it is to be them, in essence. With line and colour, it is their voices that I am trying to find and trying to hear.  It is my hope that the passion in our art can help to inspire a passion to save the many species that are teetering on the brink of extinction.  Man and beast, we are all one nation....  as Henry Beston so eloquently expressed:

"We patronize them for their incompleteness, for their tragic fate of having taken form so far below ourselves. And therein we err, and err greatly. For animals shall not be measured by man. In a world older and more complete than ours, they move finished and complete, gifted with extensions of senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear. They are not brethren, they are not underlings; they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the web of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendour and travail of the earth. "
