HAZEL SOAN

“Not everyone can visit the wild places on Earth but paintings, however small, can take us there, and in their remarkable way allow us to partake of something big, something much bigger than ourselves.”

“Africa has been a huge inspiration to me and I probably owe my success in watercolour to painting wildlife in the African bush. In trying to find a method to paint quickly and boldly in the fast drying heat of the Kalahari, I developed a deep love and understanding of watercolour. I refined my palette, honed my brushwork and shaped my African paintings. The exhibitions, commissions, television series, books, DVDs, lectures and magazine articles, have all come about through my passion for watercolour, so I have a lot for which to thank the African bush!”

Hazel Soan is a British artist, well known internationally for her watercolours and especially for her African paintings. Her works are held in prestigious public collections, including the National Portrait Gallery and several embassies, and her private and corporate collectors are worldwide. She is the author of thirteen books on painting including “Hazel Soan’s African Watercolours”. Many people are inspired by her satellite TV programmes and DVD films and remember with fondness her role as an Art Expert on Channel 4’s popular painting programme “Watercolour Challenge” and her own series “Splash of Colour”.
