RALF KOENEMANN

Ralf Koenemann is one of the few people on earth who can affirm that he always meets big and wild gorillas at eye level, that full-grown elephants lay at his feet, and that exotic parrots grow tame in his studio as if in a birdcage....

Koenemann, a passionate painter, confronts us with gestural painting led by high emotions and longstanding experience. Jackson Pollock, one of the pioneers of the abstract expressionism, used to approach his canvas laid on the floor while dancing with a painting gesture. And this is how Ralf Koenemann also conquers his elephants...

"Animal Kingdom“ shows the independent kingdom of painting. Either gorillas or elephants in serials 1, 2 and 3 or raven, eagle, macaw – the heroism of the Koenemann’s animal world is unique and embraces each viewer.  The human being does not play a noticeable role in his world of painting but in the end he is the protagonist – as a viewer carried away by a wave of emotion. Koenemann tackles one of the big topics of the history of art – and reminds us that the animal world is an everlasting theme of mankind.
