SUE GOMBUS

Sue Gombus is an award-winning pastel artist as well as an award-winning public school teacher. Her love of wildlife and art, along with her commitment to education, has developed into a deep desire to work in support of the wildlife and wild places that she loves, and to educate the planet’s future caretakers through conservation education programmes.

Sue first became involved in conservation efforts after a weekend trip to the San Diego Wild Animal Park. While participating in a cheetah run safari she learned about the status of the world’s fastest land animal. Conservationists at the park explained that the cheetah had a 50% chance of becoming extinct within the next 15 years. Sue was astounded by this information and knew it was time to act. Shortly thereafter she was selected by the Cincinnati Zoo and Miami University to participate in a field study at the Cheetah Conservation Fund in Namibia, Africa with renowned conservationist Dr. Laurie Marker.

Since that time, Sue has travelled extensively on behalf of her art and conservation projects and has had the good fortune to spend time with some of the world’s foremost wildlife artists and conservationists. She has painted with John and Suzy Seerey-Lester, studied wolves with Jan Martin McGuire and travelled to Kenya with John Banovich.
